Description

Everything you need for the next solar eclipse, all in one app! Introducing Solar Snap: a camera filter + app combo that can help you take amazing photos of the sun, whether there’s an eclipse, or any other day. Simply attach the filter to your phone, open Solar Snap, and snap away! Solar Snap also includes an interactive, offline global solar eclipse simulator, with detailed information and times to prepare you for the next eclipse, no matter where you are, where you are going, even if you don't have a signal! Solar Snap can be used with our Solar Snap filter kit available at: https://www.eclipseglasses.com/products/solar-snap-the-eclipse-app. This filter protects your phone camera from damage by the bright sun. You may optionally re-use old eclipse glasses by cutting a pair in half and taping it over your camera lens. Video instructions by Astronomer Doug Duncan included in the app. Total solar eclipses are crossing Europe and the Middle East in 2026 and 2027. Get ready!

    Great!

Stuck a piece of an eclipse sunglass on my iPhone camera and took awesome photos of the partial eclipse from my backyard! Great for moon photos!

Great! Turn up the screen brightness

    a. Great app! I used it to photograph the annular solar eclipse from the suburbs of Albuquerque. I left the kit at home. I used the app on an iPhone 13 Pro. My wife used the app on an iPhone X. We each used an improvised filter cut out from approved, silvered solar viewing glasses. The material caused an orange color and some haloes. What worked well. The autofocus worked great! I did not need to lock it. I could not photograph the sunspot that we saw through binoculars but that may have been the filter. The partial 60-sec timer. Changes. For some of us, the Zoom and Exp buttons got stuck on the left edge and needed tapping a few times. Maybe make them a few pixels bigger. Put the time on the screen so that we do not have to close the app to see the time. Annular eclipse is a bit over exposed even at the lowest exposure but that may be our filter. b. Combined with a suitable filter, it provides easy adjustment of the zoom, exposure, and focus. There is a button to take photos at regular intervals, an intervalometer. It worked well during the 2023 annular eclipse. You can temporarily attach an approved filter material to the phone using masking tape or binder clips! c. In April 2024, we got the filter kit. It went on easily and the Velcro pad stayed on the back of the phone. After you put on the filter, turn up the screen brightness. Now you can see the dim image onscreen while squinting towards the partially eclipsed sun and the bright sky! It was too cloudy to use the app. d. Try a zoom from near 4 to 15 and exposure near -2. For each eclipse, the autofocus worked well and we did not have to manually adjust focus. e. Unclear which lens it uses on a multi-lens phone. For example, for a 6X zoom does it use the 2X lens and 3X optical zoom or 5X lens and 1.2X digital zoom?

    2024 Eclipse

I had high hopes that my iPhone 15 Pro Max along with this app and filter would take good photos, however almost everything was blurry though on a tripod. The app automatically changed the lighting with each consecutive shot which made them all terrible. I don’t understand the logic behind that. Good thing I had my Sony handicap set up with a special lens that I could pull a still photo or two from that.

    Waste of time and attention

I took probably 150 eclipse pictures with this app on the day of (the self-timing feature is nice, so credit to that). The picture that my wife casually took on her phone’s camera was better than all of them! Very disappointing to see.

This might be the best space app I’ve ever downloaded

The greatest thing about this app is you can zoom in on anything and increase the brightness lower the brightness and you don’t just have to do it on the sun you can also do it on anything also you can take pictures of the new music this app I took a picture of my dog and it had better focus set my camera I love this app I recommend this🤘🏻

    Amazing!!

NASA recommended to buy a filter for your cell phone camera and posted a few web stores to buy them from. The filter that Solar Snap uses was the highest rated one, so I bought it. I’m so freaking happy I did! We drove 10+ hours to see the totality of the eclipse on 4/8/24 and this app and filter made our photos! The app lets you adjust for Focus, Zoom, and Exposure and that made all the difference! I even took a few photos without using Solar Snap and you can’t tell we were at an eclipse. Others I know also used Solar Snap and were extremely pleased. I will definitely use this app for future eclipses!

    Perfect app for the eclipse!

Used this gem to get shots of the totality in Franklin Indiana. Easy to use, the filter worked great, and the shots were equal to the glasses I wore. Highly recommended!

Kept my gear from eclipsing my experience

FANTASTIC APP that allowed me to use an older iPhone 8+ as a camera on a small tracking scope (ETX90) to capture great shots of the April 2024 eclipse. Auto-bracketing on preselected timer intervals is a GENIUS move. Now get to work on some more iPhone Astrophotography apps!!

    It doesn’t work

Aiming it at the totality, about 30 seconds were wasted on this app. It took a perfect totality and produced a blur. Total waste of precious time during a totality.
