  You will not get anything they advertise

  I got this a couple of years ago and had really high hopes. It worked for a while and I really liked the videos they had. But they advertise everywhere that you can upload any video/movie/podcast and will be able to study with it. But, when you are in the app, their FAQ says that you are only able to use their selections. It constantly has bugs, and when you try to talk to customer support, you will only get a bot (and sometimes not even that.) During the 2-ish years I had the app (holding out hope for things to get resolved) I was unable to even access my account for about 6 months, and they never gave me a refund or even acknowledged it again. The flash cards are constantly wrong, so if you don’t have a foundational knowledge in your target language, you will get the wrong information. They also say that you will get speaking practice with the app, but I have only been able to use that feature once or twice in the time I’ve had the app. And that isn’t even counting the weird AI updates they’ve started forcing on users and cause even more bugs and glitches.

  A Lot Better (Spanish)

  I like it overall. The Spanish content is really well-developed and up there now. Can't speak for the other languages. But Spanish draws on all the movie, Pixar content, our culture, and the accents are really cool. I love the mostly clear and educated Mexican accents and videos on Mexican culture. I passed on fluentU years ago and even just a few months ago. But, now I'm in Ukraine, and wanted to reconnect with a deeper understanding of the language. It's not too bad. Gotten better at this moment with the user experience on fluentU. I just hope they keep it this way and not make any deleterious changes.

  Does it works on mobile phone ?

  I just looked at this app and at the first glance everything looks great in the web version however when I am trying to see videos on my phone app it doesn’t work and it is really frustrating.

  Video is almost useless and the teaching method undermines pronunciation.

  When playing the video clips on an iPad Air the clips fire off one after another so quickly that there is no time to process the info. The clips are moving so quickly that the beginning of each clip is truncated. Additionally like all language learning programs they expect you to be literate right away. The western alphabet is used differently from language to language. Teaching people to read and write before they can understand leads to poor pronunciation. Stop doing this very few 6 year olds can read and write but most of can speak their native language pretty well.

  I CANCELED MY SUB AND THEY STILL CHARGED ME

  What more can I say? I signed up and had it for a year. Was fun but not progressing that much whatever so I canceled it and then checking my bank statement months later i see that they have charged me for a renewal. Not only that, but i actually don’t even have access to the material so on top of everything I’m getting charged for services I don’t even get.

  Great idea, terrible execution

  I’ve used FluentU for over six years to study Mandarin and can say the structure of the flashcard system is unique and in many ways better than other systems out there (and I have used many of the most popular alternatives). I really want to love this app, but sadly can confirm there are tons of quality issues that regularly show up with the app (often it seems little to no testing must have been done since some bugs are completely blocking anyone from using the functionality). These are not small nit picky issues, they are major functional issues that should not have been allowed to be released in the first place. This has been a trend for the last few years and is getting worse. It feels like the app started with a different engineering team and handed over to a much less experienced one. Very sad,

  I would try this app but I don’t see a subscription price. Everyone hides their prices and I don’t like it. If I don’t see transparent pricing, I move on!

  Cancelled on last day of trial, still billed, zero response from support

  I tried this app and then cancelled on the last day of my trial and still got billed $140 for a year. I’ve tried emailing support about this with no response. FluentU took my money even though I cancelled on the last day. I want my money back!
